UX for space and place

Re-thinking how digital platforms represent physical space

Website redesign for a large mixed-use development in Berlin, serving as both a place-branding platform and a functional availability tool.

A major transformation is underway in the area, and the website has been designed not only as an availability tool for retail and office space but also as a community hub that publicises events.

We adopted an integrated approach to the offering by merging events and destinations into a single page. This recognises that some events are also places (an exhibition in the main square or pop-up shops) and some destinations double as events (an ice rink). The client immediately saw the benefits of that flexible model.

A further significant design challenge was the availability map. Given the complexity of the building architecture, each composition required custom design work, yet remained bounded by a defined set of parameters..

Events and destinations overlapped conceptually and physically, making traditional categorisation confusing and limiting.

I proposed merging events and destinations into a single exploratory model, allowing users to discover the space intuitively from different entry points.

Additional work included designing on-brand availability indicators for complex architectural layouts and presenting innovative solutions to the client.
